With the arrival of mobile technology the concept of sitting down for a nice cup of coffee and a newspaper first thing in the morning has changed. The need to have a paper in hand is still very strong with some people but for others it’s not necessary. The speed of delivery and ability to update news on a handheld mobile device is a big attraction among digital/mobile users.
Many news outlets have developed mobile apps –
First on the list is the San Antonio Business Journal. It’s a free app that lists all the top business news in San Antonio and the surrounding area. You can email any article you like from the application.
USA Today is another free app that gives you the latest news, sports scores and weather across the nation. All these stories can be shared via email, text message, Twitter or Facebook. USA Today also offers AutoPilot – an all-in-one trip organizer. It organizes all your flight, lodging, and rental car details into an easy to use format. It has many features like check in reminders, current weather conditions at your departure and arrival locations, travel directory, etc. You can also browse USA Today travel articles and share them. AutoPilot is free in the app store.
Next is Thomson Reuters with the latest news and market data. This free app gives you fast access to financial news that can be targeted to your geographic area. It has a watch list for monitoring your stocks and companies, detailed company profiles and all the latest in science, technology, health and internet news. There is some entertainment and sports news and results and the popular “Oddly Enough” stories.
All of the television networks, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, have free apps for up to the minute news stories. The NY Times lets you take their newspaper with you and you can customize the toolbar with your favorite sections. The Wall Street Journal has a free app to download and you can read some of the stories but for complete access you need a subscription to the actual paper.
Never miss another breaking story again! Happy reading!
